We need to talk about Oscar Isaac (King of Kings)

Not everyone spends a lot of their time deep diving into internet rabbit holes looking for traces of Jesus. But I do!

I also happen to LOVE the film Prince of Egypt. Way before I had any relationship to Jesus, that was a film that snuck into my heart and stayed there.

So, when I learned about a new animated fim called King of Kings, made by the people behind The Chosen series, well… lets just say my heart is already making space for a new film to fit.

This is where it starts to get really intersting and fun. Oscar Isaac plays the voice of Jesus… Now I am also a Oscar Isaac fan. I first noticed him in the last set of Star Wars films as Poe Dameron, then he did an AMAZING job in the Moon Knight (come on series 2…!!). He popped up in Dune, I found out he was in Inside Llewyn Davis, he was in A Marriage Story, EX Machina and I mean the list just goes on….

But why would he want to play Jesus’ voice in an animated film?

Well, it might have to do with his background…. You see after a bit of rabbit hole spelunking, I came across his background as singer songwriter and guitarist in various worship bands.

Yep, my jaw hit the floor. - and spoiler alert, it will hit the floor even harder when you hear the music (its really fun).

His most successful band was called The Blinking Underdogs, they opened for bands like Green Day and played at festivals in Florida, including Warped Tour.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Isaac shared that he had been part of several bands, including Petrified Frogs, Closeted Heterosexuals, and the Worms. However, his last and most successful venture was with the Blinking Underdogs.

So, as my quest to find incredibly talented people who live the real world, but who have a strong relationship with Jesus in some way, continues. Oscar is definitely one of the top on the list.
